Microsoft Unveils Upgrade of BizTalk ServerThe upgrade of BizTalk Server 2006 includes native support for commonly used electronic communications in supply chains and new services for managing radio frequency identification systems.
Microsoft Corp. on Tuesday unveiled an upgrade of BizTalk Server 2006 that includes native support for commonly used electronic communications in supply chains and new services for managing radio frequency identification systems.
BizTalk Server 2006 R2, scheduled to ship in the first half of 2007, would include support for electronic data interchange, or EDI, and AS2. BizTalk, which is used to conduct supply-chain transactions between businesses, currently has native support for electronic communications using extensible markup language, or XML. The upgrade also would include new features that provide support for messaging protocols such as EDIFACT and X12, and the secure communication protocol, EDIINT AS2, Microsoft officials said in unveiling the software at the U Connect Conference in Nashville, Tenn. On RFID, BizTalk R2 would include a new set of technologies that would connect real-time events related to gathering information from electronic tags, with relevant supply-chain processes and back-end business applications, Microsoft said. RFID technology within the upgrade would include an event processes engine that enables the creation of business rules and tight integration with Microsoft Visual Studio. Pricing and licensing details for BizTalk Server 2006 R2 would be announced later, Microsoft said.
