Offshore by the Numbers

The types of projects being outsourced closely mirror the makeup of application development overall, but they do skew to large, Java-based client/server systems for the software, finance and telecom industries.

Numerous studies have confirmed that offshore outsourcing is a major trend for U.S. IT operations across multiple industries. In October 2003, Software Development surveyed 414 U.S. developers and development managers whose projects had been partially or completely outsourced offshore. The goal was to gain a more accurate view of the types of projects that were being outsourced from the perspective of those closest to them. Here are the results.
