XML Internet OS Beta ReleasedClaims are that XIOS/3 will change how software is distributed, sold and developed.
Xcerion's has launched a beta version of XIOS/3, its "XML Internet Operating System." According to Xcerion's Daniel Arthursson, XIOS/3 provides an XML Internet OS as a Web 2.0 Internet service. Arthursson says that the service changes how software is distributed, sold and developed. XIOS/3 includes a complete OS, productivity tools, and applications needed for everyday computing -- and the OS scales for millions of users. The core technology is a new OS driven by an XML Virtual Machine.
The XIOS/3 architecture consists of three layers:
The XML Virtual Machine and UI components found in the Business Layer make up the core functionality of XIOS/3. The XML Virtual Machine is a client application server that interprets XML processes at its core. XIDE/3 automatically generates the required XML files for the XML Virtual Machine to deploy the application. The XIOS desktop that is used for managing documents, launching applications and handling the basic operating system tasks was created in the IDE. Applications, XML processes, Workflow, Data Constrains, XML Schemas, Data and UI Components are all described using XML. This makes XIOS one of the most open and standard based development and deployment platforms of today.
The Domain layer is mostly used for persistence, update coordination, and transaction management. The server uses XML Web Services and can be replaced by other services, making it possible to use the server of choice. Changes of data bound to any application are instantly reflected in all applications working on the same data, at the same time, through the advanced Update Coordinator. Inside XIOS/3, all data is exposed as XML documents, even if they are XML Web services. The Service Transparency Layer handles this. XML documents in the repository are directly available as themselves. Naturally XIOS/3 does not refresh the browser to fetch data, it gives a consistent user experience.
Arthursson went on to say that "We are excited to launch our initial beta program. The launch represents an important milestone for Xcerion. Yesterday, September 30th, we let our first limited group of beta testers try the XIOS/3 system. Next month we will start releasing more features including applications. It feels great to finally be able to disclose our global Internet service. Our scaleable Internet OS with offline capabilities that enables extreme rapid development of software opens up a new era of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). Hundreds of applications lend themselves to be easily moved to the OS.
"We want to create opportunities for developers to create user-friendly software that runs within the browser without any plug-ins. This is the beginning of a fundamental shift in computing as the web browser reinvents itself from being an information browsing tool to becoming an application platform and API, turning the traditional OS into a commodity."
The initial beta includes the core operating system, user desktop, applications, virtual XML file system and a XML text editor for writing applications. Developers can register
