Dr. Dobb's TV Player

Dr. Dobb's TV uses Macromedia Flash technology to stream video content as soon as you load the page. It requires an Internet connection speed of 300Kbps or better for optimal performance. In order to watch Dr. Dobb's TV, you'll need to have version 6 or above of the Flash player installed on your computer. Most likely, it's already installed on your computer. If Flash is not installed, when you try to view Dr. Dobb's TV, download the latest Flash Media Player from Macromedia.

Using Dr. Dobb's TV Player

Player Controls: Use the Play/Pause and Rewind controls under the video window to control the video experience.

Disable AutoStart: Dr. Dobb's TV begins playing automatically by default. To change this default, click the "Disable Autostart" link under the video window. Autostart will remain disabled on subsequent visits. When autostart is disabled, you'll have to click the Play button to start the video. (Note that disabling autostart may help alleviate problems in certain browser platforms.)

Full Screen Player: Click the "View Full Screen" link under the video window to launch a pop-up window containing the larger version of the current edition of Dr. Dobb's TV.

A Special Note For Firefox Users:

Some Firefox users have reported trouble loading Dr. Dobb's TV with Firefox. If you have ever installed a newer version of Firefox over an installation of an earlier version of the program, we recommend that you follow these easy steps:

1. Download the latest version of the Firefox installer from http://www.getfirefox.com/ (even if you already have the latest version installed). Choose the Save to Disk option or download it to your Firefox Downloads folder. Do not Open the file or choose the online installation method, if offered.

2. Uninstall Firefox using Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. If you see multiple versions of Firefox in Add or Remove Programs, uninstall all of them, starting with older versions first.

3. Don't worry! All of your existing settings, bookmarks, extensions, themes, and customizations will be fully preserved. Really.

4. Install this version and return to Dr. Dobb's TV site.

Note: Mozilla has in the past recommended these steps to solve a variety of problems, especially with versions of Firefox prior to 1.0.4. So you may find that other aspects of Firefox work better too.
