SDForum Announces 2007 Visionary Awards


SDForum a Silicon Valley nonprofit dedicated to educating and creating relationships within the technology community, today announced the recipients of its 10th Annual Visionary Awards. The theme this year is "Mobile, Media and Entertainment."

Trip Hawkins, Craig McCaw, Michael Moritz, and Walt Mossberg are this year's recipients. They were selected by the SDForum board of directors based on their ongoing contribution and commitment to improving life through superior technology. The winners will be honored at a ceremony on June 20 at a private home. The event will be sponsored by Deloitte, Microsoft, Nokia, DLA Piper, and Nasdaq

"It is our distinct pleasure to acknowledge these accomplished individuals for their unique achievements," said Susan Lucas-Conwell, executive director of SDForum. "It is because of their guidance, inspiration and determination that the Silicon Valley continues to thrive and prosper as the world's foremost leader in technology innovation."

Each year SDForum honors industry leaders who have pioneered innovation and fostered the spirit of entrepreneurship. These visionaries and distinguished business leaders have greatly contributed to shaping Silicon Valley. Past recipients include Lou Gerstner, Bill Gates, Doug Engelbart, John Chambers, Gordon Moore, Ray Ozzie, and Vint Cerf.

Trip Hawkins

Trip Hawkins is chairman and CEO of Digital Chocolate, a creator of innovative mobile phone games and social applications, such as Tower Bloxx and MLSN Sports Picks. He has worked at Apple, Electronic Arts, and 3DO, in addition to being the first business executive to be inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

Craig McCaw

Craig McCaw is founder, chairman and CEO of Eagle River Investments, a private investment company. McCaw is also the founder and chairman of the board of Clearwire, a wireless broadband services provider, and Chairman of ICO, a global satellite communications company. He is regarded as a pioneer and leader in the wireless communications industry.

Michael Moritz

Michael Moritz works for Sequoia Capital where he focuses on software and services investments. He was also a founder of Technologic Partners. Sequoia Capital's investments include Google, Yahoo!, PayPal, eBay, Apple, Cisco and YouTube.

Walt Mossberg

Walt Mossberg is the author and creator of the weekly "Personal Technology" column in The Wall Street Journal, which has appeared every Thursday since 1991. He also coproduces and cohosts "D: All Things Digital," a high-tech conference with interviewees such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and many other leading players in the tech and media industries.
