Etnus Ships TotalView 4.0 Parallel Debugger

Etnus has released TotalView 4.0, a parallel debugger that supports multiple development platforms for both traditional Unix and Linux. New in version 4.0 is support for additional compilers, including SunPro 5.0 and Guide OpenMP cross-platform compilers on the IBM, SGI, Compaq, and Intel Linux platforms. TotalView 4.0 also supports 64-bit IBM AIX applications with the ability to debug both 32- and 64-bit programs in a single session.

The GUI-based, single- and multi-process debugger enables developers to unravel and control multiple threads and processes running on single or multiple processor systems. The debugger automatically acquires related information on processes and threads and graphically displays data arrays. Users can dive into program objects and structures for more detail.

Etnus offers licenses for two or more processors and is introducing a one-user, one-processor licensing option. TotalView 4.0 licenses start at $750.

ILOG Announces OPL Studio 3.0

ILOG has released OPL Studio 3.0, an interactive design environment that lets users create optimization models without a detailed knowledge of computer programming. OPL Studio 3.0 supports Windows DNA via Microsoft COM. Optimization code developed with OPL Studio 3.0 can be integrated into any Windows-based application supporting COM, including Excel. With the OPL component libraries, Visual Basic and Visual J++ developers can integrate optimization into Windows-based applications without requiring C++ programming.

OPL Studio 3.0 pricing starts at $10,000 for a development license. Customers who wish to embed OPL models within applications will require additional licenses of ILOG Solver, ILOG CPLEX, or ILOG Scheduler, depending on the optimization solution being deployed.

ESRI Releases MapObjects 2.0a

ESRI has announced MapObjects 2.0a, an update of MapObjects 2.0, ESRI's collection of embeddable mapping and GIS components. Version 2.0a adds support for MicroStation, DGN files, and updates for ArcSDE 8, SRI's universal spatial server. MapObjects 2.0a includes more than 45 mapping components. Other features include on-the-fly projection capabilities and a new geocoding engine. Its components can be used in any standard Windows development environment, such as Visual Basic, Visual C++, Delphi, and PowerBuilder.

MapObjects 2.0a is available on CD-ROM for $19.95. Upgrades can be downloaded for free from ESRI's website.

Advanced Software Technologies Announces GDPro 4.0

Advanced Software Technologies, Inc. has released GDPro 4.0, a UML visual modeling tool. New in version 4.0 is a system hierarchy window, which provides viewing and manipulation of the package structure in a system. Symbols may be dragged and dropped into new packages, and symbol properties viewed and edited. The system hierarchy window allows navigation directly to the symbol on a diagram. Window contents can be filtered by symbol type.

GDPro 4.0 supports Windows 95/98/NT on Intel-based PCs and Unix on Sun Solaris. Pricing for GDPro begins at $2,495 for Windows 95/98/NT and $3,995 for Unix. Prices include pre-modeled libraries from Rogue Wave and MFC.

DeVries Data Systems Announces OfficePartner 1.5

DeVries Data Systems Inc. has released OfficePartner 1.5, a suite of software components designed to integrate the Microsoft Office suite with Borland's software development tools. In version 1.5, the mail merge capability in the Word component supports VCL datasets, as well as ODBC. Also, the Word component includes a find and replace functionality. In addition, print methods have been added for Word documents and Excel workbooks.

Available at DeVries' website, OfficePartner 1.5 costs $399 per user, with discounts available for multi-license packages. Current OfficePartner 1.0 users can download the new version for free from the company's website.

Softel vdm Releases SftBox/ATL 2.0 and SftTabs/ATL 3.5

Softel vdm has released SftBox/ATL 2.0, an ActiveX combo-box control. SftBox/ATL 2.0 offers the basic combo-box styles and includes advanced features, such as auto-completion for text entered, auto-drop, OLE drag-and-drop, and user resizable columns.

Softel vdm also has released a new version of its tab control SftTabs/ATL 3.5. SftTabs/ATL 3.5 is an ActiveX control that provides tab controls that can be used to implement tabbed forms and windows. SftTabs/ATL 3.5 supports over 30 built-in styles with varying tab locations.

SftBox/ATL 2.0 costs $275 for a single developer license, and the controls are royalty-free. Evaluation copies are available on request. Xbridge systems Announces Xbridge Professional

Xbridge systems has released Xbridge Professional, a product that enables Windows 95/98/NT/2000 applications to directly access data on an OS/390 mainframe. Instead of message brokering, duplicating, or migrating the data, Xbridge Professional provides just the specific data records or fields required by the requesting application. The program operates transparently and presents the data to the requesting application in a ready-to-use, industry-standard Windows format.

Pricing for Xbridge Professional starts at $20,000 per year depending on usage. The base product comes with capabilities for text and Office Automation (OLE DB/ADO and ActiveX).

JSB Announces Multiview Catalyst

JSB Corporation has announced Multiview Catalyst, a Web-to-host product used to connect character-based Unix applications to the Web. Multiview Catalyst features a browser-like interface with point-and-click navigation. The interface includes, for example, color mapping, clickable buttons, URL and email hot-links, sunken edit fields, custom toolbars, and pop-up mouse menus to enhance Unix applications on-the-fly.

The Multiview Catalyst connectivity engine residing on the NT server achieves optimum client performance. The client gets served only what it needs: an ultra-thin slice of display data. ActiveX and Java applets provide an open and flexible architecture for client connections.

Pricing for Multiview Catalyst starts at $229.50 per user for a 10-user license. There is no charge for host software on the server. All JSB customers receive 50-percent discounts off standard list prices for all future major releases.

KADAK Announces KwikPeg GUI

KADAK Products Ltd. has introduced the KwikPeg GUI, which provides the software interface required to add graphics to embedded products that incorporate any of KADAK's RTOS or network components. KwikPeg offers a small footprint, high performance, and an event-driven programming model. It provides an API, class library, and a complete set of graphics development tools for C source-code generation. The KwikPeg Window Builder is a visual design tool for creating custom windows, dialogs, and controls. Font Grabber captures TrueType and BDF fonts with Unicode character encoding, if needed. The Image Converter converts BMP, GIF, and PEG images into a compressed, ROMable binary format.

A KwikPeg GUI site license is royalty-free and includes source code.

Real-Time Innovations Unveils ScopeTools 2.0

Real-Time Innovations has released ScopeTools 2.0, a suite for embedded software developers using Wind River's Tornado II embedded development environment. ScopeTools are visualization tools for data monitoring, execution tracing, performance tuning, and memory analysis.

All four tools in the suite feature "instant analysis" providing one-touch operation without code instrumentation or recompilation. To provide instant analysis, ScopeTools implement automatic configuration detection, automated tool loading and initialization, on-line symbol table analysis, tight debugger and Tornado integration, and on-the-fly code patching.

ScopeTools 2.0 is available through Wind River Systems as part of their WindPower Tools bundled with Tornado. Pricing for the Tornado Professional package with ScopeTools 2.0 starts at $5,995 with discounts for five-user bundles.

ABCS Announces BeanStreet Verification Framework

ABCS, Inc. has released BeanStreet Verification Framework, designed to simplify web form validation. BeanStreet Verification Framework is used to collect and validate information users enter in HTML forms and applets within the context of a Java Server Page. The run-time Servlet uses JavaBeans and property files generated by the development tools associated with BeanStreet Verification Framework to validate the data entered as defined by the developer. The run-time Servlet also uses these files to determine which HTML page or Servlet to send the user's request to next. BeanStreet Verification Framework supports a thin-client access model based on Java Server Pages and servlets.

BeanStreet Verification Framework costs $4,500 per CPU and includes unlimited development seats and one year of telephone support.

Pragmatic Software Delivers Defect Tracker 2.0

U S Software has announced the porting of USNET 2.56 to ThreadX Real Time Operating System from Express Logic, Inc. USNET 2.56 is a reentrant, real-time TCP/IP protocol stack that includes clients/servers, various Internet protocols, data-link layers, and drivers. In addition to ThreadX support, other new features have been added, such as Network Address Translation protocol (NAT), Green Hills compiler support for PowerPC, StrongARM support, and a new device driver for I82596.

TechSmith Announces SnagIt 5.0 for Windows

TechSmith has released SnagIt 5.0, a screen capture tool and annotation editor for Windows. SnagIt enables users to capture desktop images, text, and video to a file or to the printer. Version 5.0 includes SnagIt Studio, an object-based, vector drawing tool. The new SnagIt Studio annotation editor is an enhancement to the well known SnagIt screen capture utility, enabling users to mark up any screen shot or image by adding text boxes, callouts, borders, company logos or standard designs. Technical writers, technical support personnel and software developers will find the tool especially helpful in creating annotated screen images for online help or other documentation. Also new is the capture profile function, which enables the user to configure frequently used settings. AccuSoft Releases PDF Plug-In for ImageGear 8.1

AccuSoft Corporation has released a PDF Plug-in for ImageGear 8.1, its imaging toolkit. The Plug-in allows ImageGear 8.1 to load three additional formats — Adobe portable document format (PDF), PostScript (PS), and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) — and to output images as PDF files. AccuSoft's PDF Plug-in is integrated via existing APIs into various ImageGear applications.

The Plug-in also allows users to write raster images as PDF files and to convert PDF files into raster images at any required resolution (up to the limits of system memory) in any of ImageGear's supported formats. It works through the same ImageGear function calls as other read and write operations.

Installshield Announces InstallFromTheWeb 3.1 and InstallShield Professional 2000 Second Edition

InstallShield has announced InstallFromTheWeb 3.1, a single-step download and installation product that allows developers to offer shorter, more secure downloads and installations via the Internet. InstallFromTheWeb 3.1 combines download, decompression, and installation into one step. It has been optimized to reduce download times of installations created with InstallShield Professional 6.

InstallShield also has released InstallShield Professional 2000 Second Edition, its installation-authoring product for ISVs and corporate developers. InstallShield Professional 2000 Second Edition features new releases of two products: InstallShield Professional 6.1, the setup-authoring tool, and InstallShield for Windows Installer 1.1, a tool for creating Windows 2000 logo-compliant installations.

LANovation Announces PictureTaker Enterprise Edition v3.0

LANovation has released PictureTaker Enterprise Edition v3.0, a software distribution utility. Version 3.0 adds support for Windows 2000, support for unattended and after-hours installations, the ability to create self-installing files, an "expert" that lets administrators build web pages for software distribution, built-in file conflict checking, and an optional status bar to display for target PC users. HiT Sofware Announces JDBC/DB2 v2.0

HiT Software Inc. has announced HiT JDBC/DB2 v2.0, a high-performance Java JDBC level 2 connectivity middleware product for DB2 server access. HiT JDBC/DB2 v2.0 supports SSL v3.0 for authentication and data encryption across networks. HiT uses the Digital Signature Standard (DSS) with the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) for data encryption to the HiT SSL server. Three different levels of encryption are supported: DES40 for international use, DES, and 3DES for use within the United States. An associated HiT JDBC/DB2 v2.0 Developer Edition provides working Java samples and source code.

Green Hills Introduces ISIM

Green Hills Software has introduced ISIM, an advanced RTOS simulation environment for the INTEGRITY real-time operating system. ISIM is a PowerPC instruction set simulator that provides support for PowerPC systems running the INTEGRITY RTOS, including virtual memory facilities, exception handling, and debugging across a LAN. ISIM enables designers to develop and test INTEGRITY-based embedded applications on PCs or workstations without requiring access to actual target hardware.

ISIM is tightly integrated with the MULTI debugger, enabling developers to debug a simulated application on the host in the same way they would on the target. ISIM supports both freeze-mode and run-mode debugging.
