Smart Client Software Factory V2 Goes Live
The Microsoft Patterns & Practices team has released v2 of the Smart Client Software Factory which you can find here. This new release includes support for Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), improved Offline support, improved guidance packages, newly enhanced support for Click-Once Deployment, VB2005 Support, and of course, many bug fixes.
If you've been using the June 2006 release (v1) of SCSF, Microsoft has created a document describing what you need to do to upgrade to v2. You can find that document here. You can find the main Smart Client web site here.
We've been using v1 of SCSF on an application and we're now actively looking to upgrade it to v2. The thing I like about how v2 came to be is that Microsoft actively recruited members of the development community (including yours truly) to offer suggestions for v2, comment on experiences with v1 and help rank the priorities for the wishlist. This kind of active customer involvement means that the evolution of SCSF will be driven by what works and what people need rather than features for features sake. Although there were a lot more features and changes that were suggested than what made this list, Microsoft clustered them into what they thought they could deliver in a reasonable time and focused on that set first. Undoubtably, the remaining items will be good candidates for v3 and beyond.
I highly recommend looking at SCSF if you're doing any kind of .NET desktop/client development.

Early Bird on Agile 2007 Conference
Just a reminder to everyone that the Agile 2007 conference to be held on August 13 to 17, 2007 in Washington D.C. has a Super Early Bird discount on cost if you register by June 1.
You can wait as long as July 10 to get the normal Early Bird discount. The Super Early Bird discount is about $300US. A nice piece of change you can spend at local D.C. watering holes when you're not catching up on the latest and greatest news in the Agile world. I'm one of the fortunate ones this year as I'm in D.C. and it's just a short cab ride for me to get there.
I highly recommend you consider going particularly if you are working with Agile/Scrum. It's a great way to meet other people working with Agile approaches and learning what works and what doesn't. Books are great, but there's nothing like talking with people who are actually doing it.
Here's the program schedule they've just posted. You can find the cost and other show information here.
