Building Vista Buzz

The Windows Vista team announced a limited release of a pre-RC1 Vista build. This build, available to the first 100,000 downloaders, is designed to gain more feedback and get a larger bug hunt out of the way before the full RC1 build is rolled out. Gregg Keizer provides some more details. The release of "Build 5536.16385" coincided with rumors of Amazon.com's sneak peak at the proposed pricing and a January 30 release date.

IE7 Public Release 1 Dumps IE6

The Public Release candidate for IE7 was released on Thursday. It automatically deletes the former beta builds (good), but it also deletes IE6 (maybe not so good). Load onto test machines only for now, if you're the belt-and-suspenders type. So far, it seems pretty stable, so maybe load IE6 on the test machine instead.

Pimp My Warthog

Microsoft's XBox has been a popular platform for warranty-voiding mods that users have created to run unauthorized games.
XBOX hackers will soon have a chance to go legit with XNA Game Studio Express, an XBOX IDE that Microsoft is releasing in beta on August 30.
XNA Game Studio is a variation on Visual C# Express 200, and includes the XNA Framework, a modified version of the .NET Framework optimized for gaming on Windows and Xbox 360. The package will also contain docs and starter kits to get you up to speed. The "pro-level" XNA toolset, Game Studio Professional, is slated for spring 2007-ish.
