Mashup Building

Last week, Yahoo unveiled Pipes, its online, graphical mashup building platform. The interest level in Pipes was high enough to make accessing the Pipes site difficult at times. In other mashup news Kapow Technologies, creator of RoboMaker and the OpenKapow community, has released Mashup Server Version 6.2, a development and deployment platform for "Enterprise Mashups".

Building With Third-Party AJAX Controls

Achieving platform neutrality while maintaing a robust UI is one of the key goals of AJAX development. In his article, Bringing the Desktop Application to the Web, author Conor Seabrook describes his company's earlier frustrations with building the first version of a web-based app, and the process of using third-party AJAX-based controls to build the 2.0 version from scratch. You can check out the UI in a free trial at xworkforce.com. It's pretty robust and responsive, although I did notice some platform dependent glitches in getting the tree view controls to display on Firefox. Time to bust out Firebug.
