Dr. Dobb's Wide World of Programming Photo Album
Here's what we need to do -- start up of photo album of programmers around the world. Of course, I could've -- and should've -- started the ball rolling on this Spring's meanderings in India, Russia, Portugal, and wherever the heck else I was. And I can contribute, but I can't do it alone. Which I why I hope you'll jump in.
What you need to do is send me a digital photo of yourself holding a copy of Dr. Dobb's Journal in your hands in front of a recognizable feature of the country, city, or locale that you're in. You know: If you're in India, a photo of you standing in front of the Taj Mahal with a copy of the magazine. Okay, if not the Taj Mahal, at least stand next to a motorized rickshaw. Or if you're in Finland, stand in front of a Nokia building. (That shouldn't be hard; it seems that just about every other building in Finland says "Nokia" on it.) And if you don't have a copy of the magazine, that's okay too. Send in your photo anyway.
It's okay if you're just traveling too; it doesn't have to be just where you reside. If you're on a trip, send us photos from your stops along the way. That's fair game too.
Of course, you could be in San Francisco's Chinatown and telling me that you're in Beijing and I probably wouldn't know the difference. The California license plates on the cars driving by might give me a hint, however.
What I'd appreciate your doing then is take the digital photo (it doesn't need to be the *highest* resolution; those can be BIG file sizes) and attach it to a note that gives your name, location, email address, and what you do and send it to me at:
ddj.photos@gmail.com.
Put "photo project" or something relevant in the subject line. If you want to ZIP up that package, that's fine too. GIF or JPG would be fine. Am I missing anything?
Oh yes, what's in it for you? Well, you get the fame associated with Dr. Dobb's. Which means that my mother, who regularly reads (but does not understand) the magazine and website, will see your smiling face.
When I asked the staff what you should get, they all chimed in to say "a visit from Erickson". But then, I figured out that that was just their way of getting me out of the office some more. So I'm still working on it. I'm thinking CDs or t-shirts or something like that. No promises yet. Need to check what's in the closet. As for your mailing address, I'll drop you a note about that when I get your photo and email address. (Unless, of course, you want to include it in the ZIP archive.)
So what do you say? Sound like fun? I hope you will participate and I look forward hearing from you. Let's see who will be the first to show up in Dr. Dobb's Wide World of Programming Photo Album project.
