AJAX Rocks
You see a lot of things come and go that people label "revolutionary." Often, they hype is bigger than the actual revolution. There is a technology, however, that does seem to be transforming the Web, and nearly overnight. If it feels to you like the web pages you visit are suddenly getting smarter, more efficient, and more functional, you probably have AJAX to thank for that. It stands for "Asynchronous Javascript and XML," and it allows web pages to behave much more like traditional desktop apps than ever before. The basic concept is pretty simple, but the effect can be stunning. The pace of change in AJAX technology is furious at the moment, and web app frameworks like Ruby on Rails are running to keep up.
