Java on iPhone
Sun has announced plans to put Java on the iPhone. See Sun Announces JVM for iPhone for the video.
Sun has announced their intention for a JVM to be put on iPhone and iPod Touch. According to Sun's Eric Klein, there is nothing in the iPhone SDK that specifically prohibits this (although this is currently under dispute).
You can view the video or listen to the audio here: Sun Announces JVM for iPhone
Sun plans to announce more details about their iPhone plans within the next few weeks. Check back on Sun's media page (http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/media/index.jsp) for announcements as they are made.
Happy coding!

Java, Python, and Jython
Today, James Gosling announced that Ted Leung (Python) and Frank Wierzbicki (Jython) will become Sun employees this month.
Ted is an author, Apache Software Foundation (ASF) member, and long-time Python developer at the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF). Frank Wierzbicki is lead implementer of the Jython project (Python on the Java VM). They'll be working full-time on Jython, paying attention to developer tools in particular.
Sun believes the Java platform is bigger than just the Java language and supports giving developers a choice. In fact, Sun is planning to support multiple languages on the Java platform (i.e. Groovy, Ruby, and Java FX) and to provide more interoperability between Java and other languages.
Ted and Frank join other technologists, such as Ian Murdock, Charles Nutter, Thomas Enebo, and Nick Kew who have recently joined Sun to pursue open source project development and community activities.
