Bad Traffic

This week, Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz cheers the return of bad commutes. If you live and work in Silicon Valley, you know why bad traffic would be something to celebrate.

I confess I'm getting hooked on Schwartz's blog postings. And it's not just because I can't get the silly notion out of my head that "Jonathan Schwartz" is German for "Jack Black." No, this whole business of a blogging CEO really is pretty radical.

And Schwartz really blogs. Oh, it's all about getting the Sun message out there, of course. But he tends to frame the marketing pitches in a broader context of thoughts on technology that come across as both articulate and immediate. He does the blogging thing well. So if the CEO thing doesn't work out, he's got that to fall back on.

Monday he made a product pre-announcement (aka leak) of a new server (code-named Thumper), but did so in the context of musing on the balance between horizontal and vertical market segmentation, software versus hardware as the locus of specialization, and a trend away from custom ASICs.

I don't think I'm gonna run right out and buy me some Thumper, but I will keep reading Schwartz's blog.
