Thoughts From a Braidy Tester

Story Time

Noticing unexpected side effects is an important part of testing. True story: back in the day, a tester was throwing random processor instructions at his operating system, just to see what would happen.

As the day wore on he noticed that one particular service was crashing with some frequency. That seemed odd, so he started poking at it. Eventually he narrowed things down to one particular processor instruction which had unearthed an obscure bug deep in the kernel. Which turned out to be a nasty security bug.

Bugs like these make a tester's day. But we would be even happier if they weren't there to find!
