Microsoft Alphanet Soup: DAO to ADO to ADO.NET

I actually minimize the number of changes in technologies that Microsoft's database techknologies have gone through. RDO should be in there, and I expect there are a few more.

Most folks these days I am fairly certain, are using ADO or ADO.NET. The exceptions might be the Microsoft Access programmers out there who might find themselves defaulting to DAO, or using DAO in order to use one of the zillions of examples on the Web for Access that use DAO.

William (Bill) Vaughn discusses the lifetime of DAO here. Note that Bill's latest book, Hitchhikers Guide to SQL Server 2005, has just crossed my desk. I have a couple of books in line before Bill's book, but I am actively looking forward to reading this book and reporting back to you.
