Process Wave has released at the Eclipse Plug-in Central the beta version of an Eclipse Process Framework (EPF) Composer generated plug-in used for defining how to go about doing "Enterprise Architecture" in an Agile way.

You use this process to establish or refine your enterprise architecture practice operational process. You can download the library and tailor and modify it to suit you own way of working. The plug-in is based upon fundamentals from both The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), a framework for enterprise architecture addresses the design, planning, implementation, and governance of enterprise information architectures, and Agile software development practices, such as SCRUM and Agile Modeling, etc. For more information, see the Agile Enterprise Architecture web site.

The Software Engineering Institute is offering a two-day course on the use of Model-Based Engineering with SAE AADL.

SAE Architecture Analysis & Design Language (AADL) is an international standard for embedded computer systems (SAE AS5506). AADL supports predictable engineering through model-based analysis and integration of real-time applications on their target platforms. Fields of application include avionics and space applications, automotive electronics, ground-based control systems, and industrial process-control equipment. The SAE AADL standard provides

• A common architecture modeling notation that helps organizations minimize training.
• An XML/XMI interchange format that facilitates multiple use of models and interoperability with commercial and in-house tools.
• UML compatibility profiles that extend UML with the real-time and embedded systems semantics of AADL.

Organizations such as the U.S. Army, the SEI, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Boeing, General Dynamics, Airbus, Dassault, and the European Space Agency have participated in creating the standard.

The classes will be held at the SEIcampus on March 7-8, June 20-21, and October 30-31, 2007.

The goal of the course is to let engineers understand the benefits of using AADL to:

• Architect real-time and embedded software systems with predictable results,
• Analyze new and existing system architectures for potential systemic problems,
• Predictably integrate systems through validated architecture models,
• Perform model-based engineering early and throughout the system life cycle,
• Integrate diverse architecture analysis and design perspectives into a comprehensive tool environment
