Getting the Most from Cell
IBM's Cell processor is a marvelously fast multicore machine—if you know how to unlock its secrets. Don't expect to just recompile your code and get high performance. The Cell can reach supercomputer performance levels, but you need to tweak your code to take advantage of the Cell's unique architecture: One 64-bit Power Processing Element (PPE) surrounded by eight simpler Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs). Daniele Paolo Scarpazza, Oreste Villa, and Fabrizio Petrini have some good advice in "Programming the Cell Processor."
