Know Your Microarchitecture
Increasing transistor density has opened up a wide range of enhancements and optimizations in microprocessor design. Writing fast code requires as broad a knowledge of these processor optimizations as possible. Intel's Ram Ramanathan details some of these in his article, "Microarchitecture Performance."
