Supreme Court Hears P2P Case
MGM Studios v. Grokster, a closely-watched case that may determine the future of file sharing software, reaches the Supreme Court today. The justices will be asked to decide whether peer-to-peer networks are analagous to blank VCR tapes—a potentially copyright infringing technology with substantial non-infringing uses—or whether, as the entertainment companies allege, their "overwhelming use...is for infringing purposes."
