Survey Says...Agile Has Crossed the Chasm
The Future's So Bright We Gotta Wear Shades
Although there is an increase from last year's agile adoption rate, I'm reticent to compare the figures because I asked the question significantly differently. Having said that, I think it's safe to claim that Agile has crossed the chasm and should now be considered mainstream. It's time for traditional holdouts to take notice, because as many agilists have likely told you, you're clearly missing out on a good thing. DDJ

The Survey
The survey was completed by 781 people over a one-week period in March 2007. It was promoted solely in Jon Erickson's blog on www.ddj.com. Some interesting statistics about the respondents:
- Primary job role: 52 percent of the respondents identified themselves as developers, 22 percent as either project or senior IT managers, and the rest in various other roles.
- Type of employer: 84.4 percent worked in commercial organizations and 15.6 percent in government.
- Employment: 40 percent had 10 to 20 years of IT experience and 33 percent had more than 20 years of IT experience.
- Organization size: 33 percent worked in organizations of 1000 or more people.
